Listening Log
Here I will share albums and songs I've been listening to each month. Enjoy!
January
I've been grieving and it is reflected in the music I've had on repeat:
-
"I Wish We Could Have Talked About It" by Link3 This was an algorithm suggestion. I really love how gentle it sounds. The lyrics are so simple and true. When I listen to this song, I think about unfair and abrupt changes/endings. -
"Harsh Realm" by WIDOWSPEAK Another new song suggested by the Youtube algorithm... it was like a godsend. This song is so sweet but sad. I love the repeated lines, good song to dissociate to. I interpret the "harsh realm" as existence, reality, this universe. -
"40 Days" by SLOWDIVE I know that this is a really popular band, but I've actually never listened to any of their other songs. I will check out more of their music for sure. I was watching a tiktok animation of a girl smoking a joint; she's holding hands with her boyfriend at the park, and then he dissapears. This song was in the background. I deleted my tiktok account, so I can't reference the video. :( This song is so relatable right now, and the opening lines hit the hardest. I don't know what to do myself when the weekends come around. I usually end up getting super stoned until I feel like i'm sinking. -
PAPOOZ & FRIENDS by Papooz The album is lovely!! such good vibes and it was just perfect for the weather. My Favorite song is the first track "Wasted Time". I was on a picnic by myself when I got the notification for this new album release, started crying. Although the song sounds happy, the lyrics not so much, with these being my favorite: ---"Lately-I walk in circles on this side of town-When you're not around-I get lonely-It's not easy"---I first heard of Papooz in 2019. I discovered them through their performance of "Ann Wants To Dance" for "A Take Away Show" on youtube. I was hooked from the moment I heard them. They are from France, you can hear their accents when they sing and it's so cute! I like to watch their interviews because I can hear their speaking voices and it's cool to hear them speak French. I LOVE french music, I always have. I looked into the directors of their music videos, and it's like a goldmine of film/media/music. I found out about another french artist "Vendredi sur Mer" because of the video "None of This Matters Now" by Pappooz. Both are directed by ALICE K. -
"High" by Slow Pulp I like to play this song when I'm driving to work in the mornings. I leave before the sun rises, it's a really nice, soft and dreamy song about feeling way too high. I don't know many songs by Slow Pulp, but the ones I do I LOVE them. I need to sit down and listen to their entire discography lol. -
"From Skin to Liquid" by Cannibal Corpse When I got my Friday the 13th tattoo, they gave me an after care package which included candy and a sticker. It was a Cannibal Corpse sticker ayyy! I burned them out for myself in highschool, so it's been a few years since I've listened to their stuff. After seeing the sticker, I took a trip down memory lane and started playing all their songs on shuffle. FROM SKIN TO LIQUID came on and I was like ??? this is so heavy?? heavier than I remember LMFAO. Guess I forgot my roots... Shame on me. It's easy to get lost in that song, its so sick!!! I like the slow build up, the pauses and change in pace. If I was a bedbug, this would be my theme song as I crawl upon my victim in their sleep >:). -
"Unexplainable" by Kodak Black My brother used to obnoxiously BLAST Kodak black, I started recognizing his music without even trying LOL. Kinda like when I was younger, I'd always blast Never Shout Never, so my brother knows a lot of their songs against his will. I LOVE this song so much the lyrics are SO relatable!!! I been betrayed in the worst ways, and now I have major trust issues. I am also going thru a lot of changes... and yeah I think I'm all that with this big chain!!!!! -
"a short history of decay" by nothing I'm writing this the day of the album release (02.27.2026). I played it this morning while getting ready for work. Listening again at work. I like this album, it sounds like good ol nothing. I like the break-core-esque sound of the second track "cannibal world". "ballot of the traitor" took me by surprise cuz I thought he said my name LMFAOO he actually said "cities" tho whoops. LOL. My favorite track is "essential tremors", it's got that classic nothing sound and I really enjoy how expansive their lyrics are on this new album, especially this song. I feel like a lot of nothing songs have very little lyrics, like the words are so draaaawwwwnnn out that it isn't noticeable. I also realy enjoyed this article by KERRANG, came out a few days ago & worth checking out: click here to read -
"I Can't Do It No More" by Fevr I can't remember how I came accross this song. The way the song sounds is so juxtaposing to the lyrics. Dancing while singing about wanting to die. ah. Love this song, super catchy and relatable ;.;. -
"Big Thumb" by Lowertown Lowertown will be releasing a new album in May, this is a single from it. I am SO excited to hear their new music. Big thumb is SO catchy omfg it's been stuck in my head like crazy. It's light and fun to sing along with. I especiallly like singing it to my cat Penny, because he's a polydactyl cat haha. I've liked Lowertown since the very beginning! I started following the vocalist Olivia on instagram, because I thought she was pretty and liked her sense of style. Then as time passed, she started releasing music with Avsha and I've been a huge fan since. I own all their reocrds so far, which this will be the 3rd one. It's been so cool watching their progress and growth. I remember when their first ever vinyl record came out, it was a show only exclusive of "I Love to Lie". It was a few months before they uploaded them to their site and I copped asap. They recently released The Gaping Mouth on vinyl as well, so you know I had to get it. -
"Yellow Bird" by Wished Bone This is like the perfect song for spring. It's soft and sweet. Birds have been a weird theme in my life lately. Trying to figure out what it all means hurts my head...but this song is very grounding in it's acceptance of the unknown, so it brings me at ease. It reminds me of the serenity prayer, that always brought me comfort as a lost child. I want to play it on the guitar :3.
February
Feeling pretty distant from myself these days. I have to de-tach to get things done. A lot of the music I've been listening to is stuff that I can dissociate to.
March
Spring is here, brighter days are ahead.
